My name is Dr. Yaw A. Boateng, a physician board-certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine. For more than 25 years, I have cared for patients with kidney disease and have seen firsthand the serious health consequences that can develop when metabolic problems are not addressed early. Throughout my career, I have treated many patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) whose health challenges were associated with diabetes. In some cases, the journey began years earlier with prediabetes—a stage when blood sugar levels are elevated but have not yet reached the threshold for diabetes. When prediabetes progresses to type 2 diabetes, the long-term consequences can include damage to the kidneys, heart, blood vessels, nerves, and other organs. That experience is one of the reasons I wrote about prediabetes and created the Prediabetes Action Plan. My goal is simple: to help people recognize prediabetes as an important opportunity to take action—before it progresses to type 2 diabetes and its potential complications. The Prediabetes Action Plan provides practical, understandable guidance for improving metabolic health through evidence-based lifestyle measures, including healthier eating, regular physical activity, stress management, adequate sleep, and sustainable daily habits. Prediabetes does not inevitably have to progress to diabetes. With early recognition and appropriate lifestyle changes—and medical care when needed—many people can significantly improve their blood sugar levels and reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. I created the Prediabetes Action Plan to give people a practical roadmap for taking those important steps toward better health
